Obituary

Wanda J. Wass, 91, of Marshall, died July 21, 2017 in La Habra, California Wanda was born on July 27, 1925 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Louis and Frieda (Sumner) Stillwell.

Wanda graduated from Fort Wayne Central High School in 1943. She met the love of her life, Samuel L. Wass IV at a dance and 43 days later they married in Wolcotville, Indiana. They lived in Marshall from 1951 to 1974, then enjoyed 16 years in their “perfect house” on Vincent Lake before returning to Marshall. Wanda and Sam were married 50 years when he died in July 1996. In 2015 Wanda moved in with her daughter, Jeanne, in California. While Michigan was always “home” she spent her final years surrounded by family and friends.

Wanda was a “social butterfly” with a quick wit, loving heart and lively spirit. One of her favorite activities was dancing at the Marshall Country Club. She was a devoted fan of Indiana University basketball and Marshall High School football and basketball games. Wanda was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and participated with the Trinity Angels. She also volunteered weekly at Oaklawn Hospital. She loved spending time with friends at Serendipity, the Stagecoach and Schuler’s as well as working out at Oaklawn Life Improvement Center. We take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with Sam in her eternal home with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Surviving her are her daughter Jeanne Finn, of La Habra, California, and her son John Wass of Waterbury, Conneticut; her 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Craig K. Kempf Family Funeral Homes, Marshall Chapel on Saturday, September 9, at noon with Mother Anne Schnaare of Trinity Episcopal Church officiating. A reception hosted by her family will follow at the Kempf Reception Hall at the funeral home.

The family suggests you remember Wanda with a memorial contribution to The S.L Wass Equipment at Oaklawn Hospital. Assistance with memorials is available at Kempf Family Funeral Homes.
