Barbara Jean Folger

Barbara Jean Folger, 82, of East Leroy, Michigan went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Oaklawn Hospital.  

She was born on April 19, 1941, to Milo and Gertrude (Shingledecker) Mohney in Battle Creek, Michigan. After graduating from Battle Creek Central High School, Class of 1959, Barbara attended Columbia University in New York City where she studied nursing. As a life-long caregiver, Barbara held many jobs in which she cared for people. After returning to the Battle Creek area, she worked as a firefighter, emergency medical tech and with the Michigan State Police Department. Barbara was the first female firefighter in Calhoun County and was proud of her work serving her community. 

Barbara was a parishioner of Victory Life Church in Battle Creek, Michigan. 

In her free time, Barbara was a talented knitter, specializing in afghans, sweaters, or anything that family or friends requested. She was a life-long Elvis Presley fan, and you would often hear her humming along to her favorite artist. She also loved writing children’s books. Barbara enjoyed tending to her flower garden and spending quality time outdoors. She had a soft spot in her heart for animals, having many pets throughout her life. In addition to being a caring person, Barbara was a fighter. She remained strong while dealing with illnesses and ailments in the last few years. Barbara loved her family fiercely. She will be missed by those who felt her care and love.  

Barbara is survived by her children Kevin Folger of East Leroy, Michigan and Stephanie (Lewis) Harrison of Battle Creek, Michigan; four granddaughters; and sister Margaret McMillen.

She was preceded in death her parents.
