RoseMary “Rosie” Shaffer, 100, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at her home in Homer, Michigan.
She was born on January 12, 1924, to Fred and Lucile (Zuelch) Licking in Jackson, Michigan. Rosie graduated from Monroe High School. On June 26, 1948, she married Gerald “Jerry” Shaffer at the Jackson Methodist Church. They were married for over 60 years before Jerry’s death in 2011.
Rosie was a longtime parishioner of the Homer United Methodist Church. Her faith in God was strong and unwavering.
Aside from her bookkeeping profession, Rosie was a vital part of the success of the Shaffer-Crandall Family Farms.
A talented knitter, Rosie would make socks, blankets, and sweaters for family, friends, strangers, or anyone who looked a little cold. She was a competitive bridge, euchre, and cribbage player. Rosie enjoyed baking and was known for her pies and carrot cake. She loved to travel anywhere warm, especially Gulf Shore, Alabama. Rosie was the #1 Detroit Tigers and Michigan State Spartans fan and never missed a game.
To say Rosie had a big personality would be an understatement; she was bold and sassy, and she would let you know it! She loved her family and friends fiercely. Visits from those she loved, especially once she became more housebound, kept Rosie going. Her sparkling presence will be missed by those who knew her, but Rosie’s shine will remain in everyone’s hearts.
Rosie is survived by her two daughters, Kally (Mark) Walcott of Washington, Utah and Jeri Lu (Terry) Crandall of Homer, Michigan; three grandchildren, Gregory (Jessica) Crandall, Matthew (Liz Beasley) Crandall, Loni Jo (Matthew) French all of Homer, Michigan; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Crandall, Paylynn Crandall.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; brother Robert Licking; sister Virgina Schackow; and her parents.
