Michael James Roberson

August 1, 1968 — April 23, 2024

Michael James Roberson, 55, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at his home in Marshall, Michigan.

Michael was born on August 1, 1968, to Walter Mansfield and Shelia (nee Martin) Lewis in Battle Creek, Michigan. While attending high school in Battle Creek, Michael loved being part of the wrestling team. During his time at Marshall High School, he was part of the drama team and helped build stage props. Michael also helped build magic props. Although he had to learn the secrets behind the magic, Michael never revealed how the tricks worked. Later in life he would impress people with his card tricks.

After graduating from high school, Michael enlisted in the United States Navy. After an honorable discharge, he decided to reenlist in the United States Army. Michael was so proud to serve our country, and he was even more thankful to all the other men and women he met that had served as well. He never missed an opportunity to stop and thank a veteran for their service. Michael was a past member of the American Legion Post 298 of Battle Creek, Michigan as well as the Freedom Riders of Michigan. A Harley Davidson rider, Michael loved his two bikes: Lucy and Dawn. Michael’s passion for both motorcycles and his community drove him to begin the Blessing of the Bikes Charity.

Michael enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas. His favorite day of the year was the day he cut down his Christmas tree. One of Michael’s proudest accomplishments was purchasing his house, who he named Lucille. He took pride in doing his own repairs and renovations and he took great care of his home. Michael and Lauren, who he called his “BFF”, never had any shortage of home projects and DIYs. If he wasn’t fixing something around the house, Michael may have been helping James repair an espresso machine, making sure to sample the coffee for quality control. In addition to working with Lauren and James at their café, he also worked as a cook at the OBX Café in Marshall where he was affectionately known as the “Prep King”.

Michael had a lot in his life to be proud of. Most recently, he was proud to have been baptized by his close friend James Hackworth at the Family Bible Church. Michael’s love of Jesus and the word of God kept him going through hard times and he enjoyed reading the Bible to find wisdom, hope, and strength. He was a devoted friend and he cared deeply for those around him. He was especially kind and wonderful with the children and older folks in his life. Michael will be missed by his family, friends, and anyone whose lives he touched.

Michael is survived by his father, Walter; mother Shelia Lewis of Homer, Michigan; daughter Summer McPeke of Battle Creek, Michigan; brothers Larry (Barb) Roberson of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Mark (Mel) Roberson of Battle Creek, Michigan; cousins Rachel Owens of Albion, Michigan and Jason Lewis of Marshall, Michigan; “adopted” family Lauren and James Hackworth, and three children Judah, Adah, and Eden, all of Marshall, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Gary Lewis and his aunt Vickie Lewis.

Visitation will be held at Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 p.m., officiated by James Hackworth. Burial will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
