Obituary

Marylou I. Cunkle, age 82, of Homer, MI passed away Monday, August 7, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ada, OH on August 17, 1934 the daughter of James and Ruth (Rambo) Miller. During her sophomore year at Homer High School, it burned to the ground. Not able to finish school, Marylou finished her GED a couple years later. She met Harold Cunkle on a blind date and they were married on a beautiful day on May 5, 1951 at the Homer United Methodist Church. Together they had 5 boys. Every year for several years, Harold and Marylou took the boys camping Out West to the Rocky Mountains. There they would stay in a tent with their 5 boys. She was mostly a homemaker, and an excellent one at that. She canned everything, made her own salsa, spaghetti sauce, and her cinnamon rolls were to die for. Marylou was excellent at gardening and fishing as well. For 2 years she worked as a manager with Spiegals in Albion. After retirement, Harold and Marylou would take 30 day vacations every year for 10 years. She was a member of the Flying Fingers Quilt Club where they made quilts for babies born with AIDS for several years. Marylou also belonged to the Quick Stepper Walking Club. More than anything she loved and was devoted to her family. The grandchildren loved going to Harold and Marylou’s house; it was always full of love and people.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 66 years, Harold; children, James (Terri) Cunkle of Cheyenne, WY, Steve Cunkle of Angola, IN, Daniel Cunkle of Jonesville, MI, David (Lisa) Cunkle of Homer, MI; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Cunkle; siblings, Jane Dunn, Jennette Moor, and John (Judy) Miller. She was preceded in death by her son, Mike Cunkle; parents, James & Ruth Miller; daughter-in-laws, Terri Cunkle, Julia Ann Cunkle; siblings Jim, Barb, Tom, Edith, and Bob.
