Obituary

Long time Marshall resident, Georgine Mae Blauvelt, 88, passed from this world Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo, after a sudden illness. Parents, George Herbert and Florence Mae (Barnum) Proctor welcomed Georgine into their lives on Saturday, January 12, 1929, in Delray, Wayne County, Michigan. She shared her life with three younger siblings, LeaJoyce Ann, Clifford "Cliff" Lowell and Geraldine "Gerry" Ruth. She spent her early years in the Detroit area sometimes working at her Uncle Ardie's restaurant, the Shirldean, or babysitting for neighbors at 25 cents per hour. Later she moved with her mother and siblings to Casnovia in Muskegon County. There she learned the farming life from her grandparents and step-father.
On December 18, 1948, in the Otsego Baptist Church, Allegan County, Georgine married Ralph "Bud" Alonzo Blauvelt. They had two children, Janice Marie and Stanley "Stan" Ralph. Bud and Georgine spent their entire married life in Marshall living and working on farms or, more recently, in town. Early years included family camping vacation trips and gatherings at Gun Lake with Bud's family and her parents' dairy and fruit farm in Casnovia. She enjoyed outdoor activities such as vegetable and flower gardening, watching wildlife and birds. She and Bud spent a few years wintering in Florida after Bud's retirement.

Georgine was a homemaker but worked at the former Tallenger's restaurant and for many years at Hemmingsen's Rexall Drug Store downtown Marshall. She was a member of the Marshall United Methodist Church where she and Bud prepared, planted and managed the grounds for several years. She was also known to be a very good cook. She tried to instill in her children all those characteristics of a good citizen and mindfulness of others. She will truly be missed by all her family.
She was preceded in death by grandparents, Lowell U. and Mina A. Barnum, her father, her mother, step-father Alton J. Wood, step-mother, Evelyn L. Proctor, sister LeaJoyce Ford, mother-in-law Hazel W. Blauvelt, in-laws Vernon "Mert" Robart, Dorothy (Donald) Hoekstra, David F. Boyce, Clyde J. Blauvelt, Kenneth W. Blauvelt, Rolland R. Blauvelt, Leo N. Blauvelt and Margaret L. Blauvelt.
She is survived by husband, Bud Blauvelt, Marshall, daughter Janice (James) Milan, South Haven, son Stan (Brenda) Blauvelt, Marshall, brother Cliff (Donna) Proctor, Greenville, sister Gerry Robart, Casnovia, brother-in-law Keith Ford, Bailey, sister-in-law's Alice Blauvelt Boyce, Shelbyville, Margret Ritchie Blauvelt and Garnet Risner Blauvelt, Plainwell, many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
