Robert "Rob" Wayne Koenig, of Battle Creek, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020. Age 73. Robert was born the son of Carl Wayne Koenig and Ruth Opel Carey on September 24, 1947 in Port Huron, St. Clair, Michigan. He married Mary Margaret Nickless on September 24, 1969 in Battle Creek, MI.
He graduated from Port Huron Northern High school in 1966. He started playing hockey as a Goalie in 1961 to 1967 in Port Huron, MI. He started up again as a Goalie in 1982 to October 1998 in Battle Creek, MI in the Over 30 Hockey and Kalamazoo, MI Hockey League. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on July 27, 1967. His Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 0341 Mortarman. He went to Vietnam from 1967 to 1969 and made the rank of Lance Cpl E-3. He moved to Battle Creek, MI and met his future wife of fifty-one years. He graduated from Kellogg Community College with degrees in Applied Science Major in Industrial Electronics and Applied Science Major in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the Marine Corp Reserves from 1969 - 1977. He joined the Michigan Air National Guard from 1977 - 1988. He joined the Air Force Reserves from 1998 - 2007. He served our country for forty years. He retired from Philips Medical Systems in 2007.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Margaret Koenig; four children, Tina Marie Koenig, Robin Grace (Matthew) Colwell, Windi Alice (Greg) Glessner, Robert Wayne (Jessica) Koenig Jr.; seven grandchildren, Quinton, Cameron, Payton Margaret, Noah, Alexander, Paxton, and Anastasia. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Cremation has taken place and no public visitation or memorial service will be held. Interment will take place later in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be given to Humane Society of South Central Michigan, 2500 Watkins Rd., Battle Creek, MI 49015,
