Nancy S. Kimber, passed away at 79, on December 12, 2019 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
She was born on August 6, 1940 to Hazen and Beatrice (Root) Heselschwerdt in Hillsdale, Michigan. She was a lifetime resident of Homer and was a graduate of Homer High School, class of 1958.
On May 9, 1959, she married Cleo E. Kimber at the United Methodist Church in Homer.
She had worked for State Farm Regional Insurance Offices in Marshall, Michigan for a short time. Nancy and Cleo owned and operated Cleo Kimber Livestock Company. They had two children, Kit and Kami, who also worked for the trucking company. Nancy did the bookkeeping for the trucking company.
She belonged to the Child Study Club. When her children were young, she served as a leader of the 4C’s 4 H club in Homer. She taught sewing and cooking to the 4 H members. She also served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and as a Campfire Leader. She and her husband, Cleo, enjoyed square dancing and camping with the MTTC Trailer Club.
In 1996, Nancy received a Liver transplant at the University of Michigan
Nancy enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed camping, sewing, cooking, spending winters in Florida. The enjoyed the Semi-Truck show in St. Ignace which was the last camping trip they took in September of this year.
She is survived by her husband, Cleo of 60 years, her son, Kit Kimber of Homer; daughter, Kami (Brian) Combs of Homer; her grandchildren, Morgan and Garrett Kimber. She is also survived by her sibling, Mary (Paul) Blashfield of Homer, Dawn (Dave) McKee of Jenison, Michigan, David (Brenda) Heselschwerdt of Homer; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 19, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 at the Homer Chapel of the Kempf Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services. A funeral service to celebrate the gift of her life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home with Chaplain Mitch Addis officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Homer.
