George V. Boden,86, of Bellevue, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his children on Friday, March 31, 2023 under the care of Oaklawn Hospice.

He was born on a farm near Marshall to Albert and Laverna (Craven) Boden on October 1, 1936. He attended grade school at the Chipp one room schoolhouse and graduated from Marshall High School in 1954.

While working at National Foods he met Marilyn Curtis. On August 25, 1954 he enlisted into the United States Navy. His parents encouraged Marilyn to continue writing to him. While stationed in San Diego, Marilyn along with a sister and cousin drove cross country to see him. After being honorably discharged in 1958, he and Marilyn were married at West Eckford Church on December 13, 1958. They made their home in Eckford until buying a farm in Bellevue in 1967.

They both started working at Kellogg’s in 1966, retiring after many years. He was a member of the Kellogg 25-year club.

He enjoyed farming, sports (loved MSU), ice fishing, a good game of Euchre and collecting classic cars. He and Marilyn attended the annual Charlton Park Father’s Day car show, rain or shine. They had a traditional family get together on New Year’s Eve before leaving for Florida. They spent many winters at their winter home in Florida.

George is survived by his children, George Boden of Bellevue, Peggy (Terry) Smurr of Battle Creek and Geoffrey (Tucker Hale) Boden of Bellevue, his grandchildren, Dennis (Samantha) Smurr, Kenneth Smurr of Battle Creek, Carolyn (Nathan) Baine of Steger, Illinois, Jessica (Alex) Nault and Ashley (Deondra Carter) Boden of Battle Creek, his great grandchildren, Nicholas, Jordan, Christopher Smurr; Trinity, Brooklynn, Allison Baine; MaryJane, VeraLee, AraBella Nault; Noah, Shaelynn Lummen, A’Daishia Boden, JaQuayla Carter; his sister, Donna Morgan, his brothers- in- law, Bernard (Bonnie) Blair, Bill (Brenda) Blair and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Marilyn, his sisters, Norma Jean Varney and Geraldine Brinkert, his sister-in-law, Barbara Cox, his brothers-in-law, Lyle Varney, Jim Brinkert, Leonard Cox and Dick Curtis.

Visitation for George will take place on Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 10:00 – 11:00 am at Countryside Venue & Events 19697 F Drive S Marshall, Michigan 49068 with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am, Jacob Washburn officiating. Burial will take place at West Eckford Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Oaklawn Hospice.
