Dorothy Wade

December 11, 1925 — October 29, 2022

Homer

Dorothy Ann (Straw) Wade, 96, of Homer, passed away on October 29, 2022, at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater, surrounded by her family.

Dorothy was born on December 11, 1925, in Kendallville, Indiana to Clayton and Martha Beulah (Duguid) Straw. They later moved to Quincy, MI and she graduated from Reading High School in 1942.

Dorothy married Marvin Wade August 24, 1947. They lived together on the Wade Farm on County Line Road where they raised their five children together.

Dorothy was an active member of Homer United Methodist Church for over 70 years. Mrs. Wade was active with 4-H when her children were young and was a member of the Country Couples Club alongside her husband.

Dorothy enjoyed traveling with Marvin, and she continued to go on adventures after he passed away in 2000. She especially enjoyed her long winters spent in Florida with her sister Ruthe. She loved to read and never stopped staying up late to finish a good book. Playing games was one of Dorothy’s favorite pastimes. If you spent any time with Dorothy, there was sure to be a board game or card game played. Her great-grandchildren benefited from her love of games, as she passed on her bingo winnings to them often.

Dorothy is survived by her three daughters, Anne Peeper of Oviedo, Florida, Ellen (Jerry) Brodock of Venice, Florida, Lori (Jeff) Butler of Homer; two sons, James (Kathy) Wade of Petosky, Dean (Marla) Wade of Homer; a sister Ruthe McNee of Grand Rapids, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her parents Clayton and Martha Beulah Straw, as well as six brothers and two sisters.
