Charles E. Hoaglin

August 27, 1951 — October 16, 2020

Charles Edward Hoaglin, better known to his friends and family as Charlie or Chuck died peacefully in his sleep October 16, 2020 in Marshall Michigan, he was 69 years old. Chuck was the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Shorty (Becky) Hoaglin.

In 1972 Chuck combined resources with Lonnie McCone to buy and man an ambulance. This started the Homer Ambulance Service. Chuck became the president in 1973. At their peak they had twelve workers on call for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and averaged over 100 calls a year. The Homer Ambulance Service served Homer and Clarendon townships plus the village of Homer. Also, in the 1970's Chuck owned and operated Fire Equipment Sales Company. He was a firefighter with the Homer Fire Department for many years.

Chuck also worked for Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels in Homer and was a correctional officer at Jackson prison. In 1982 he went to work with the Federal Bureau of Prisons and retired in 2004 with 21 years and 6 months of service. He rose through the ranks and retired as a Special Investigative Supervisor (SIS at the rank of Lieutenant. Chuck spent most of his career as a Special Investigative Supervisor. The other places he worked in his 21 years of service were El Reno, OK; Ray Brook, NY; Oakdale, LA, Milan, MI and finally Elkton, OH.

Chuck enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching NASCAR races. He was a diehard fan of U of M and Lions football. He loved to cook and was a very good carpenter. He was a member of DeMolay in his youth. His favorite saying when you left after seeing him or ending a phone call was 'don't tip over".

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and his sister Bev Swope.

Chuck is survived by his brother Gene (Beverly) Hoaglin of Homer, MI; sisters Marilyn (Lonnie) McCone of Homer, MI; Janice Hoaglin of San Francisco, CA. His children; daughter Heather Dawson of Homer, MI; sons Gary (Rindi) Hoaglin of Grand Rapids, MI; Scott (Ashlee) Hoaglin of Ohio, Jeremy Hoaglin of Ohio, Tyler (Rachael) Hoaglin of Ohio. His grandsons; Cameron, Trenton, Trevor, Shawn and Nolan Hoaglin; granddaughters Melanie Blando, Brylin, Raelynn and Riley Hoaglin. Great-grandson; Carter Johnson. His cousin Dan (Wendy) Fisk, 7 nephews and many friends.

Friends may call at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 303 S. Hillsdale Street, Homer on Friday Oct. 23 from 4PM - 7PM. A graveside ceremony for the family will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Homer.
