Catherine " Cathey" Valentina (Piatkowski) Smith

Catherine "Cathey" Valentina Smith, 80, of Sevierville, Tennessee, formerly of Battle Creek passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, Tennessee.

She was born on September 17, 1942 to Stanley and Helen (Kavinski) Piatkowski in Hamtramck, Michigan. She graduated from Bronson High School in Bronson, Michigan.

On November 27, 1971 she married Walter Smith in Bronson, Michigan. Cathey was a longtime beautician and she owned and operated Guys and Dolls Beauty Salon in Battle Creek for 10 years, retiring in 1987.

Cathey enjoyed reading, crafting, and painting on many different surfaces, such as shirts and pants. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake, especially Polish food. She could also prepare wild game. Cathey enjoyed hiking and fishing with her husband Walter.

Cathey is survived by her loving husband, Walter, her brother-in-law, Michael Gordier of Battle Creek, Michigan and Michael Cave of Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Bernadette Gordier.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services, 2838 Capital Ave. SW, Battle Creek, Michigan with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. The burial will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
