Yalonda Marie (Swann) Sell

Yalonda Marie (Swann) Sell, 61, of Marshall, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2023 at home surrounded by family.

Yalonda was born on December 28, 1961 to Kenneth Dwayne and Aletha Laree (Lane) Swann in Orange, California. She graduated from Brandon High School in Ortonville, Michigan in 1980. She continued her education at Michigan State University where she double majored in criminal justice and psychology, graduating in 1984.

She met her husband, Craig, at Michigan State and they were married on May 4th, 1985 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Ortonville, Michigan. They spent 38 wonderful years together.

Yalonda worked at Calhoun County Circuit Court - Juvenile Division for 17 years. She had an early retirement and spent the following years supporting her daughters in their various sporting, dance, and theater endeavors. She was actively involved in the Parent Council Organization at Marshall Public Schools and truly appreciated being connected to the Marshall community.

In her younger years, she enjoyed snowmobiling and water skiing. She loved boat rides on her beloved Stuart Lake with family and friends, capturing the best pictures of the sunset. She enjoyed Broadway musicals, her workout classes, and finding a good deal while shopping. She took joy in traveling with family, never missing an opportunity to plan a trip. Yalonda was a loving friend to many, always a phone call away and quick to send thoughtful care packages.

Yalonda is survived by her husband, Craig Sell; daughters, Amanda Sell of Marshall, Victoria (Kyle) Newnam of Canyon Country, California, and Heather (Marcus) Berg of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister, Dawn (Ron) Holcomb of Marshall; and her beloved dog Delilah.

Yalonda was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, Michigan from 9:30-11am. Following visitation, family and friends will process for a Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 212 West Hanover Street, Marshall, Michigan 49068 starting at 11:30am with Father Craig Lusk officiating. Following the funeral mass, burial will take place at Oakridge Cemetery at 1pm, 614 Homer Road, Marshall, Michigan 49068. A luncheon will take place following burial at the funeral home.
