Wilma Croff, age 60, of Marshall, passed away on January 28, 2024 at her home peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loved ones and went home to her Heavenly Father. She was born on October 23, 1963 to Willie and Helen (Miller) Brown in Marshall, MI. To quote Wilma, “I’ve never been normal.” She met Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Kenneth D. Croff on August 10, 1981 and they were engaged on September 5, 1981, and she married that Navy Sailor on October 23, 1981 in Vermontville, MI. “I gave him the choice to stay or leave and I’m glad he chose me and stayed.” She was a Sailor’s wife and a stay-at-home mother. On September 5, 1982, God gave them, Jessica, her baby girl. They got to move every few years around the USA. After retiring from Navy life in 1996, they moved to their final home destination of Michigan to be with extended family. She went to work for Bradford White in Middleville, MI from 2000 - 2005. Wilma had known that she would retire in five years. Every year since 2011, Wilma and her family would go to Family Campground in Edmore, MI to camp, her home away from home. She enjoyed traveling with her family, driving her brand-new golf cart around, shopping on the internet and remodeling their house, Wilma especially enjoyed doing the electrical work. Wilma has an extensive collection of TV shows and movies on DVD, and she loved feeding her two cats, Jr. and Lady treats. She made sure before her passing that they had lots of treats because she loved them and knew they would miss her.
Wilma is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Kenneth Croff, loving daughter, Jessica Croff of Marshall; mother, Helen Brown; sisters, Sally (Charles) Vandemoortel, favorite sister, Barbara Dunn, Linda (Mike) Hansen; brother, Jimmy Brown; in-laws, Dennis (Janet) Croff, Brian (Julie) Croff; favorite brother-in-law, Gary (Shirley) Croff, Sr.; Janet (Cal) Riker; many nieces and nephews; step-daughter, Christina Marie Schlack of Charlotte, MI; step-grandchildren, Caitlyn Stevens, Kirsten Wisler, Christopher Schlack; five step great-children; favorite Family Campground friends, Carole Neville and Cindy Stratton of Edmore and the Campground friends that became like family. Wilma treated all her family and friends with love.
Wilma was preceded in death by her father, Willie Brown; brother, Billy Ray Brown; nephew, Gary Lee Croff, Jr., “The son I never had but was my son;” grandparents, Ruth Miller, “My favorite grandma, she always had two cookies, one for each hand for me” and parents-in-laws, Kenneth Croff “He always made me feel as a daughter and I could be me” and Carol Croff “I’m glad our relationship grew to the friendship we had,” and the many family and friends who have gone before her.
Wilma enjoyed seeing her flowers sent from her family: “God Has You. So, This Is From All The People Here On Earth Who Love You.” Bunches, Bunches and Bunches.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Family Campground in Edmore, MI in June.
