William F. "Bill" "Wacky" Morse

April 23, 1946 — June 8, 1968

William F. "Bill" "Wacky" Morse was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on April 23, 1946 to James and Helen (Fletcher) Morse. He lived in the Lee Lake community and had many fond memories growing up there. He attended school in Marshall and graduated with the MHS Class of 1964.On Saturday, June 8th, 1968 Bill married Cally Draime in Homer, MI at the Presbyterian Church. Bill and Cally lived and raised a family together in Marshall for 46 happy and fulfilling years.Bill never had anything handed to him growing up, which taught him the importance of being a hard worker. He thrived on keeping busy, coming up with new ideas to make money as well as becoming his own jack-of-all-trades. These traits were not only passed on to his children, but onto others whom he met. Bill would do anything to help others in their time of need and often would make lasting and life changing impressions on people. Although he had a gruff exterior, his heart couldn't have been any bigger. In 1986 Bill and Cally bought Wacky Willy's. There is not one person in Marshall who did not go there at least weekly to get a snack, soda or their lottery ticket! In 1997 Bill opened and became co-owner of the Dark Horse Brew Pub, which was later moved to a building behind Wacky Willy's and it was renamed Dark Horse Brewing Company in 2000. In 2011 Wacky Willy's was closed to provide additional space for the brewery and Bill retired, but continued in his co-owner position at the brewery along with his wife Cally. Everyday he would come down, lean in and check in with all the staff. Wacky loved all of the employees and considered them as a part of the family. Bill would often be seen in the Taproom talking with the employees and customers and giving them a taste of his "Wackenomics". He wasn't afraid to express himself. When he got loud, everyone was sure to listen! On July 29, 2014 the Dark Horse Brewing Company hosted a red carpet premiere party for their new series called Dark Horse Nation on the History Channel. All the episodes are now more priceless with all of the hard work and memories created with Bill for his family and friends for years to come.He liked to mow and spend time on his property in Lee Township, where he, his friends and sons built a hunting cabin. Bill also enjoyed spending time in South Haven during the summers. He was referred to as "Captain Pill" while piloting the family's fishing boat and reeled in some big ones on Lake Michigan. Bill also enjoyed trying to beat the one armed bandit. On August 27th Bill passed away at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan after a heart attack on the previous Friday. He is remembered by his family as a wonderful and proud husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved his family, friends, and his community. Bill will be greatly missed not only by all of his family, but by the community of Marshall; there is a little piece of "Wacky" in everyone's heart.Bill is survived by his wife, Cally; sons, Jason William Morse (Tammy Moon) of Battle Creek and Aaron (Kristine) Morse of Marshall; sisters, Susan (Ken) Lyntwniuk of Colorado and Kathleen (Jim) Anderson of Marshall; brother in law, Leon Draime; grandchildren, Chelsea Morse (Thuryll Carvey Jr.), Chloe Morse, Makenzie Morse, Caleb Morse, and Remee Morse; great-grandchildren Emmett Carvey; nephews, Rob Lyntwniuk, Brett Lyntwniuk, and Derek Anderson; niece, Amy Anderson; and great niece, Katarina Lyntwniuk. He was preceded in death by his parents.A visitation will be held on Monday, September 1st from 3-6PM at the Craig K.
