Warren C. Hastings

Warren C. Hastings, age 79, of Marshall, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 16, 2006. Warren was born May 10, 1927 in Albion to Rollo and Eva (Lake) Hastings. He graduated from Albion High School in 1945 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in November of that year. He started out serving as a Calvary Trooper, and then served with the 13th Constabulary Squadron in Europe as part of the Army of Occupation. He returned to Albion after his honorable discharge from active duty, and continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve until his honorable discharge from there in 1950. He was married on June 28, 1947 in Albion to Julia M. Crabill. The couple lived there on Ann Street for a number of years until moving to Fredonia Township in 1956. They lived there on A Drive South for many years. Julia preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 1983. In April of 1984, he was married to Dorothy Curran. She also preceded him in death in October of 1993. Several years later he moved to Marengo Township to make his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Charlie Enright, where he has lived since. After his military service, Warren owned and operated his own milk delivery business. He later went to work driving truck for Crowell Carton, then St. Regis Paper Company. He finished his career, driving for Yellow Freight until his retirement in 1981. He had driven for over 40 years, with millions of accident free miles. Warren loved gardening. He sold the fruit he raised in his orchard locally. He was a talented woodworker, creating furniture and toys. He built the family garage, a rec room in their basement, and a storage barn at the Enrights. He was very good working with measurements. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles and playing cards with nightly games with Cindy and Charlie being common. Warren loved his family, and time with grandchildren was precious to him. He was a good natured jokester and teaser! Surviving are daughters and son-in-laws, Cindy (Charlie) Enright, Christine (Jim) Shepherd, and Diana (Buford "Tic")Toney all of Marshall, and Judy (Ron) Yost of Winterhaven, FL; his sons, Phillip (Carol Hotrum) Hastings, Steven Hastings and Kim Hastings all of Marshall; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Phyllis Mootz of Milwaukee,WI and Ann Gibbs of Jackson; and nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Hastings, and his parents. Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Sunday from 9AM to 9PM, where family will be present to greet friends and share memories 1PM to 3PM and 5PM to 7PM Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held on Monday at 11AM at Kempf Funeral Home with Rev. David Boedecker of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Albion Memory Gardens, with military honors conducted by Claude E. Hale Post #4073 Veterans Of Foreign Wars . Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice or Fountain Clinic. Assistance with memorials available at Kempf Funeral Home.
