Vonnerie Wood

Vonnerie Wood, age 82, of Marshall, Michigan, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2023. Vonnerie was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, on December 14, 1940, to Richard and Bernita (Smith) Wood. She graduated from Marshall High School, Class of 1959. She was an elementary school teacher in Albion Public Schools for 24 years before her retirement in 1993.

Vonnerie was a life-long resident of Marshall. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and gardening. She was a member of the Marshall Area Garden Club, and her gardens were part of the Annual Garden Tour multiple times. She was well known for her knowledge of roses, and the many roses that she cared for in her gardens. She was a certified Master Gardener and a National Flower Show Judge. Vonnerie also used her creative talents to create new recipes that she would then enter in recipe contests. She won a Kellogg recipe contest, she won the Michigan Beef Cook-Off, which led her to participate in the National Beef Cook-Off, she was selected as a finalist in the Pillsbury Bake-Off for her Lemon – Raspberry Pie.

Vonnerie is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, William (Bill) Attleberger; daughter, Anne-Marie (Dan) Batten; grandchildren, Shannon Holt, Courtney (Derek) Lucassian, Andrea Batten, and Brett Batten; sister, Tirrel Wood; and brother, Robin Wood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Steven Holt; daughter, Marla (Holt) Rodriguez; grandson, Alexander Holt; brother, Richard Wood; and sister, Jeanine Holibaugh.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 11:00am-12:00pm at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068. Funeral service will follow at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oaklawn Hospice ( www.oaklawnhospital.org/donate/ )  or Calhoun County Animal Center ( www.calhouncountyanimalcenter.org/donations.html ).
