Viretta Jean (Smith) Evans

Viretta "Vi" (Smith) Evans, age 87, of Marshall, MI, passed away at her home on Thursday, May 6, 2021. She was born in Lansing, MI on December 4, 1933, the daughter of the late Stanley A. Smith and Lucy A. (DeFeyter) Smith. Vi graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1951 and later took accounting courses at Kellogg Community College. She was united in marriage with Keith R. Evans on March 31, 1951 in Lansing, MI. Keith preceded her in death on August 10, 2014. Vi worked for Darling's Hardware from 1978 - 1998. She belonged to St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshall. She was a former member of the Marshall Women's Business Association.

Vi is survived by six children, Richard (Teresa) Evans, Kay (Jim) Dutch, Deborah (Tim) Walbeck, Brenda Rodewald, Michael (Brenda) Evans, and Angela (John) McHenry of Wisconsin; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley A. Smith and Lucy A. Smith; her husband, Keith R. Evans; siblings, Alden Smith, Kenneth Smith, and Helen Bradley; and a son-in-law, Henry "Hank" Rodewald.

Friends may visit with the family from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068. A Rosary service will follow the visitation at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home. A Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021 at the funeral home. Rev. Fr. Craig Lusk will officiate the Mass, with a graveside service to follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
