Verna Jean Mansfield, 79, of Marshall Michigan passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 14, 1944 to Frederick and Maudie (Culver) Swafford in Albion, Michigan. On July 28, 1963. Jean married Gary Mansfield in Homer, Michigan, sadly he passed away on March 7, 2022
Jean worked at Louie's Bakery in Marshall at the front counter for many years. She then went to work at Felpausch in Marshall in the bakery department. Jean bowled for many years with the woman's league and in the Marshall Moose League at Marshall Lanes, She and Gary loved traveling to northern Michigan and the upper peninsula whether it was going to the casinos along the way or just sight-seeing She was an excellent cook and baker, always from scratch. She and Gary enjoyed planting a big garden so they could can their vegetables; her children remember going to the cellar to get a jar of vegetables for dinner. Her family was usually well stocked with socks and slippers that Jean knitted. She loved the many dogs she raised over the years, but she especially loved her family.
Jean is survived by her children, Robert Mansfield of Marshall, Michigan, Frederick (Chandra) Mansfield of Marshall, MI, Paula Mansfield of Plymouth, Michigan and Timothy (Nicole) Mansfield of Battle Creek, Michigan; her grandchildren, Zachary Mansfield of Battle Creek, Michigan, Karlie Mansfield of Battle Creek, Michigan, Alex (Annette) Mansfield of Marshall, Michigan, Katie Mansfield of Marshall, Michigan and Jacob Mansfield of Battle Creek, Michigan; her brother, John Swafford of Nokomis, Florida and her long-time special friend, Kerrie Griffin of Marshall, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, her parents, her granddaughter, Corey Mansfield and her brother, Jim Swafford.
A visitation for Jean will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, Michigan 49068 with the funeral service to follow at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
