Vera Joan (McCrary) Chichester, age 90, of Marshall, Michigan, passed into heaven on Thursday, August 10, 2023.
She was born to John Raymond and Beulah (Lutz) McCrary on October 26, 1932, in Ceresco, Michigan. She lived in Ceresco until she married Wendell (Wendy) Chichester on February 23, 1951.
Vera was a member of the Marshall High School class of 1950. She was employed by McCrary’s Ice Cream Parlor in Ceresco. After graduation she worked for Leyden Plumbing, Isle Royal Agency, Engineering Castings, Schuler’s, and for 36 years at the Eaton Corporation. She retired from Eaton Proving Ground in 1992.
Vera was an avid golfer, having been a member of the Marshall Country Club for 52 years. She liked to “brag” about her four Holes-In-One.
Vera attended the Marengo Nondenominational Church and is a member of the Wilder Creek Conservation Club. She was an animal lover. Other hobbies were reading cemeteries, attending auctions, refinishing furniture, genealogy, and going to casinos. She and her husband, Wendy, spent many winters in Winter Haven and The Villages in Florida.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary McCrary of Battle Creek; and many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendy, in 2007; parents; brother, Robert and brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Olive McCrary.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Ceresco Cemetery, with Pastor Steve Herman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Marengo Nondenominational Church or Wilder Creek Conservation Club.
