Tommie Allen Phillips

Tommie "Tom" Allen Phillips, 80, of East Leroy, Michigan passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born on August 12, 1941 to James and Viola (Kaufman) Phillips in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was a graduate of Athens High School. Tom married Evelyn Mead on September 8, 1961 in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Tom owned and operated Phillips Sanitation for many years, retiring in 1994. He held many positions with Leroy Township including supervisor. Tom coached rocket football in Athens for several years, becoming part of the football chain gang. He enjoyed family trips to Lake Gogebic. He also built a cabin in Onaway, Michigan for his family to enjoy. Tom loved to walleye fish, go morel mushroom hunting and grilling. Above all else he loved being with his family.

Tom is survived by his loving spouse; Evelyn, his children; Viola Saylor of Marshall, Michigan, Ann (Stacey) Connin of Union City, Michigan, and Thomas (Shayna) Phillips of Battle Creek, Michigan, his 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and his brother, Robert (Sandra) Phillips of Toledo, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Doris Sheperd, his sister's; Doris Hammond and Virginia Pearce.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Leroy Township Community Building from 3:00 to 6:00 pm.

Burial will take place in the Leroy Congregational Cemetery in Leroy Township, Michigan.

Memorials are suggested to the Leroy Township Fire Department.
