Suzanne L. (Baker) Durham, age 82, of Marshall, died April 14, 2023.
She was born January 14, 1941 in Marshall, MI to Harold and Bernadine (Miller) Baker. Suzanne graduated from Marshall High School in 1959 where she was active in the marching band as a majorette. She married Alan H. Durham of Battle Creek, MI on June 30th, 1961. She was employed as a Loan Officer for Associates Loan Co. of Battle Creek, Atlas Loan Co. and Michigan Loan Co of Battle Creek, MI. Upon returning to Marshall, she was a Loan Officer at the Marshall Community Credit Union.
Suzanne (Sue) is survived by sons John H. Durham (Melanie) of St. Jacob, IL, Shane A. Durham (Debbie) of Battle Creek, MI, daughters, Karen R. Andes (Dave) of Cheshire, CT, Dawn M. LaGrand (Bryan) of Battle Creek, MI, grandchildren Trevor Durham (Miranda), Haley Gower (Cody), Gavin Durham (Briah), Nicholas McCleary (Christyn), Whitney Durham, Wyatt Durham, Cortney Smith (Zack), Griffen Andes (Christina), Carson Andes and Rebekah Andes; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Durham, Rozlyn Gower, Rogan and Logan Durham and Kenzington and Gillian McCleary and brothers Larry Baker (Judy) and Bud Baker (Audrey).
Suzanne (Sue) was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Alan H. Durham; parents, Harold J and Bernadine (Miller) Baker, sisters Jody (Joan) Baker, Phyllis Wise, Carolyn McMillon, Marilyn Demarest and Mary Jean Baker.
Suzanne (Sue) was a member of First Baptist Church of Marshall where she was active in church activities. She especially enjoyed teaching children’s church. She was also instrumental in working with her sister Phyllis (Cliff) Wise in getting a girls softball program established at Marshall High School through Title IX. She coached little league baseball and softball for many years in both Marshall and Harper Creek and was also a slow-pitch softball pitcher in Marshall’s Women’s league for numerous years until an injury forced her to retire her cleats.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N Marshall, Michigan 49068
A private Family graveside service will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery where Suzanne will be laid to rest with her husband.
In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to do so is encouraged to donate to the Marshall High School Girls Softball program or the Marshall High School Marching Band, C/O Marshall High School 701 N. Marshall Ave. Marshall, Michigan 49068.
