Steven Romanowski

d. November 16, 2023

Marshall

Steven Michael Romanowski, 67, of Marshall, Michigan, passed away surrounded by his family on November 16, 2023.

He was born in Albion, Michigan in 1956 to Michael and Phyllis (Konkle) Romanowski. His mother passed away in 1963 and his father re-married Patricia Beattie. Steve graduated from Homer High school in 1974 and attended Michigan Technological University. In 1978 he married Karen Hindenach and had two daughters, Laurie and Amy. That marriage ended in divorce. On April 24, 1993 he remarried Judith D. (Hoffman) Agerter in Jackson, Michigan.

Steve had a number of hobbies throughout his life. When he was younger, he loved playing softball and playing golf. He also enjoyed cooking and canning. He was always coming up with new recipes and nothing made him happier than people enjoying his meals. He loved watching sports, especially U of M football and the Detroit Tigers, and one of his fondest memories was taking his granddaughter, Ellie, to her very first Tigers game.

Steve loved working with his hands and creating things. This made him an excellent craftsman and Tool and Die Maker. He was currently employed at Progressive Dynamics in Marshall as the resident Tooling expert. He was also a skilled woodworker and made many projects for local businesses and museums as well as friends and family. He and his wife Judy were always working together on projects for around the house or gifts. He spent a lot of time working in his barn with his daughters in hopes to pass on some of his vast woodworking knowledge.

He was also very proud of his Polish heritage. He was an active member of the Polish National Alliance (PNA) and he loved being a part of all of the special events they held. He especially loved the Oktoberfest event each year. He also loved making and eating Polish cuisine and attempting to teach his daughters to speak some Polish (without much luck).

Although he loved many things, there was nothing he loved more than his only grandchild, Ellie. She was truly the apple of his eye and brought him more joy than anything else in the world. He loved coming to her plays, recitals, dirt bike races and other events and spoiling her in ways that only a grandparent can. He always had a picture of her with him ready to show off at any moment.

Steve was preceded in death by his wife Judy, his parents and step-mother; and his step-brother, Mike McCullough. He is survived by his daughters, Laurie (Jason) Pfiester of Bellevue, MI and Amy Romanowski of Bellevue, MI, his granddaughter, Ellie, his sister, Carla Austin of Jackson, MI, his nephew, Scott Austin of Parma, MI, niece, Diane (Charles) Rieke of Tiffin, OH and a number of close friends that will miss him dearly.

A Gathering to celebrate his life will be held at Kempf Funeral Home, 723 US Highway 27 N, Marshall, Michigan on Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. A private memorial service for the family will take place at a later date.
