RUTH E. HARTRuth E. (Thorley) Hart, age 90, of Albion died Monday morning, August 28, 2006 at the St. Mary''s Health and Rehabilitation Center in Grand Rapids.Mrs. Hart was born on May 30, 1916 in McMillan, Michigan to Joseph and Alice (Nies) Thorley. On May 16, 1942, she married Aubrey "Bud" R. Hart in Beulah, Michigan. The couple then moved to this area. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1999. Mrs. Hart had been employed as a sales clerk at the old McCrory Dime Store in downtown Albion. She had also worked at Zoddies/Yankee Department stores.Mrs. Hart was a devoted Christian and was a member of the Albion Church of God. She was known within the church family as the "mother of their church". Ruth was a self-taught piano player, learning to play in her eighties. Her talents were well used, often playing in the church services. Another talent that was developed late in her life was art. She became quite accomplished and shared her many paintings with her family and friends.She is survived by son, Jim (Theresa Hammond) Hart of Battle Creek; daughters, Nancy (Thomas) Visser of Comstock Park, MI and Liz (Steve) Spieker of Grand Rapids; step-son, Rod (Laurie) Hart; grandchildren, Katy, Kyle, Keith, Kurt, Becky, Rachel, B.J., Todd, Mark, Lorrie, Sheri, Matthew, Roddy Jr. and Ryan; numerous great grandchildren; sister, Rachel Koski; sister-in-laws, Theresa Hart and Dorothy Thorley; close friends, Ann Neistkra and Albert Young. In addition to her husband, Aubrey "Bud", she was also preceded in death by a son, Stanton Edward Hart; step-son, Robert Craig Hart and numerous sisters and brothers.The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 Wednesday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home. A service to celebrate her life will be held 1:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Hershel Davis and Pastor Thomas Visser officiating. Interment will take place in Sun Cemetery, Thompsonville, MI on Friday at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the Albion Church of God. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
