Ruth L. Dean

Ruth L. (Blashfield) Dean, age 81, of Lyon Lake, Marshall, died on Wednesday afternoon, September 20, 2006 at St. Vincent''s Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ruth was born on March 7, 1925 in Clarendon Township to Floyd A. and Iva M. (Shafer) Blashfield. She attended Tekonsha schools, and graduated from Tekonsha Community High School. She received nursing training and graduated Mercy College in Detroit in 1946. She became a Registered Nurse in March of that year. Ruth was married on April 27, 1947 in Tekonsha to Calvin C. "Cy" Dean. The couple settled on Lyon Lake in 1948 . They both were active golfers and longtime members at Marshall Country Club. They enjoyed their home at Lyon Lake. Cy preceded her in death on March 24, 1994. Ruth was the plant nurse for Marshall''s Eaton Corporation plant for 18 years until her retirement in 1986. Prior to that she worked as a registered nurse in Leila Hospital''s Emergency Room from 1946 to 1954, then worked as an office nurse for Lakeview doctors Finch, Morrison and McCuaig. She was also a former member of Marshall Moose Lodge #676 Women of The Moose. Ruth enjoyed bowling in Marshall leagues for many years. Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sharon Dean of Indianapolis, IN; a brother, Boyd Blashfield of Coldwater; and 3 sisters, Jean Hall of Tekonsha, Ilah Clark of Burlington, and Joan Cooper of Union City; and nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Sunday from 9AM-9PM, where family will be present to greet friends and share memories from 1PM-3PM and 5PM-7PM. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, Sept. 25, at 11AM at Kempf Funeral Home with Celebrant Robert Doner officiating. Interment will follow in Lyon Lake Cemetery.
