Robert J. "RJ" Sanders, 89, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on January 12, 2022. He went home to be with our Lord and Savior after months of compassionate care by Hospice and his family.
RJ was born in Edwardsburg, Michigan, October 22, 1932, to Robert B. and Rose (Miller) Sanders. He grew up the fourth child of six and was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Sanders, grand-daughter, Ashley Graham, and his parents and siblings, Benjamin (Joyce) Sanders, Lillian (Robert) Corey, Anna Miller, Kathleen (Karl) Kommes, as well as, in-laws, Adam and Viola “Grace” Sibigtroth.
Being a kind and dependable father was of the utmost importance and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family. In addition to his wife of 67 years, Marilyn J (Sibigtroth) he is survived by his children, Bonny (Gene) Adkins, Rebecca Zaharion, Robert “Rob” Sanders, Joseph (Amy) Sanders, Barbara (Bobby G) Graham and his youngest brother David (Julie) Sanders, 21 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He served in the United States Navy for seven years and made his home in Key West, FL after being discharged in
May 1955. While in the Navy, he met, Marilyn, and they married on November 30,1954. Soon after, they returned to Michigan and started their family.
RJ was a dedicated employee of Clark Equipment for 27 years. After retirement he moved to Florida to enjoy his love for fishing, water sports and gold prospecting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, taking long drives on the weeks, hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. In 2000 RJ enjoyed a well-deserved gold prospecting dream trip to Alaska.
A memorial service and Military honors ceremony will be held at a later date.
