Richard E. Turner, born January 6, 1935 in his Aunt Ruth Kappis' home in Marshall, Michigan passed away of natural causes March 17, 2017 in Castroville, TX.Richard is survived by his wife of forty six and one half years Bonita, daughter, Doreen Rae (Manual) Valadez of Seward, Alaska; son, Charles of Texas; granddaughter, Madison Rae (Frank) Ritzen of Seward, Alaska; sister, Constance (James) O'Connor; brother, Lyndon (Susan) Turner; cousin, Martha Travis of Michigan as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Harry and Norma (Emery) Turner and brother, Gregory.Richard was raised in rural Calhoun County, MI on the Emery Family farm. He graduated from Albion High School where he excelled in sports. After graduation, he served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. He utilized his Naval training and continued to achieve advanced degrees in water treatment and utilities in Michigan, California, Texas and Alaska. He retired at 72 years of age from the Sea Life Center in Seward, Alaska.Richard was a Cabela's poster boy, a skilled hunter, fisherman and trapper who loved the outdoors and the waterways.A memorial service will be announced at a later date to be held in the land he loves, Alaska's, Resurrection Bay.
