Phyllis (Holte) Perrine, 96, of Marengo, quietly passed from this life into the wonderful presence of God on January 18, 2024.
Born April 1, 1927 in Grand Ledge, Michigan, Phyllis attended school in Lansing before she pursued her talent in artisanship by studying home economics at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina.
After meeting her husband, David Perrine, at her home church in Lansing, they joyfully married on June 4, 1950 and made their home in Marengo Township, where she lived until her passing.
Phyllis worked at State Farm in Marshall until she became the bookkeeper for Stealy and Perrine Implements. She was actively involved in the accounting and secretarial part of the business when it later became Dave Perrine Implements.
Her love for God and passion for ministry and discipleship can clearly be seen both through her faithful involvement in youth and ladies’ ministries and her generous support of various missionaries and Christian ministries. She was a lifetime Auxiliary member of the Albion/Marshall Gideon Camp and worked some on the state level as well.
Always willing to share her talents, Phyllis passed on her love of sewing and knitting to her own daughters and granddaughters as well as numerous young people through her role as a leader in the Marengo 4-H club. She also enjoyed spinning wool from the sheep on the farm and was instrumental in establishing a local spinning club, Ewe Spinners. Ever a complimentary pair, Phyllis and her husband, Dave, traveled around to various gas engine shows where he demonstrated his working antique engines while Phyllis demonstrated spinning wool on her spinning wheel. The skills she taught and fostered carry on a lasting legacy of the joy she found in creating practical and beautiful pieces of handiwork.
Phyllis thoroughly enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially when visiting her daughters and grandchildren. Surrounded by loved ones was her favorite place to be, and the memories made in that place give her family much comfort in her absence.
She is survived by her two daughters: Barbara Perrine, of Marshall, and Joan (Steve) Scott of South Whitley, Indiana; five grandchildren: Tyler (Hollie) Scott of Warsaw, Indiana, Titus (Alicia) Scott of Detroit, Michigan, Melita Scott of Marshall, Lydia Scott of Hong Kong, and Margaret Scott of Indianapolis, Indiana; and seven great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband David Perrine, her daughter Rebecca, her parents William and Eudora (Marie) Holte, and her sisters Bette Miller and Adele (Dee) Edmonds.
In honor of her life of faithful commitment to following Christ and her longtime support of missions work worldwide, memorials for Phyllis may be made to Bibles International. https://biblesint.org/campaigns/living-legacies
