Phyllis Allred of Marshall, MI, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. She was 94 years old. She was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, soon-to-be great-great grandmother, and accordingly, she will be dearly missed by many.
Phyllis was born on April 13, 1928, the daughter of the late Frank and Ellen (Messner) Todd of White Pigeon, MI. A graduate of the Kellogg Community Nursing Program, she was a Registered Nurse with a certificate in Rehabilitation. For 23 years, she served at the Southwestern Michigan Rehab Hospital, completing her time there as the Assistant Director of Nurses. After retirement, she continued her work in nursing at The Laurels of Bedford. Phyllis loved her work and was proud of her time and accomplishments in the field, which included being a member of the American Nurses Association, Michigan Nurses Association and Advisor to the Battle Creek Stroke Club.
Phyllis was delightfully feisty, fiercely independent and could always be counted on for a clever joke. She leaves her family with a wonderful and often hilarious collection of good memories including (but certainly not limited to) breakfast served courtesy of a ceramic duck lovingly called Duck Puke, her favorite swearword: DHSP, oatmeal raisin cookies that cannot be duplicated and a vast knowledge of the English royal family.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Jack Todd, Mary Todd, and Joyce Todd, as well as her daughter Ellen Hodges. She is survived by her sister, Lois Leist, her son, Courtney (Luanne Miller) Hodges, grandchildren, Kellye (Joey) Youngs, Christina Cushard, Justin (Sara) Hodges, Sarah Monarca, Ryan (Jennifer) Hodges, and six great-grandchildren, Cameron and Sebastian Youngs, Aliya Agnello, Hayden Hodges, Lily Cushard, and Duke Hodges.
Phyllis will be missed by all, but we know she is enjoying tea with the Queen…finally.
