Opal "Bo" Newsome

Opal "Bo" Newsome, 87, of Marshall, Michigan, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Eaton County Health and Rehabilitation Services in Charlotte, Michigan.  

She was born on December 12, 1936 to Gordon and Molly (Newsome) Newsome in Pikeville, Kentucky.

Opal worked at G. C. Murphy and Company Dime Store as a clerk in Pikeville, Kentucky for many years. Upon arriving in Marshall, Michigan she worked at several factories as a laborer, including Fabricators, Trim Parts, Inc., Lytech Company and then retiring from Progressive Dynamics in 1998.

Opal attended Little Vineyard Old Regular Baptist Church in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. She loved dogs, sewing, especially making clothes, tending to her petunia flower beds and cooking. Corn chowder was her family’s favorite dish. Opal enjoyed decorating for all of the holidays. Her most cherished memories were of family get together's, this brought her so much joy and comfort.  

Opal "Bo" is survived by her loving niece and Godchild, Pamela Hamilton of Marshall, Michigan, her brother-in-law, Palmer Hamilton of Marshall, Michigan and Pam’s dog Brett, whom she loved dearly. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Ada Marie Newsome, Feddie Newsome, Mollie Mae Newsome, Beatrice Hamilton and foster sister Spicy McPeek, her sister-in-law, Emily Newsome and her nephew, Gordon Newsome.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2024, from 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm at Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services 723 US Hwy 27 N Marshall, Michigan 49068 with the funeral service to follow at 2:30 pm at the funeral home with Elder Estill Hamilton, officiating.

Burial will take place at Porter Cemetery in Marshall, Michigan.
