Nell C. Hunt, 90, of Albion, passed away on January 16, 2024 from Alzheimer’s at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility in Battle Creek where she was cared for by the wonderful staff. She was born on November 21, 1933 to Alexander and Kansas (Prather) Dotson in Vulcan, West Virginia. She grew up in Phelps, KY and at the age of 16, she met her future husband, Ellison “Bud” Hunt. Nell and Bud got married on May 27, 1950 in Pikeville, KY. They eventually made their way to Albion in 1955 where they worked and raised their family.
Nell worked for the GC Murphy Company at the candy counter, Cole’s Restaurant at the snack bar and lastly she worked as a waitress for the Big Boy Restaurant where she eventually retired. Being a homemaker and caring for her children and others was what she enjoyed doing the most.
In 1963 Nell gave her life to God at the Christ Apostolic Church in Albion under the original ministry of Rev. and Mrs. William R. Starr. After his death, under Rev. and Mrs. David Trammell until their transition to Senior Pastor; passing the work to Rev. and Mrs. Terron Erwin of Albion. Nell was also very blessed to set under the teachings of Rev. and Mrs. Gary Cook while living with her son, Luther in the Detroit area. Carol Cook became a great comfort to her.
Nell is survived by her loving children, Phyllis (Paul) Woods of Homer, Pam Hunt of Albion, Michael Hunt of Iron Station, NC, Marsha (Lynn) Smith of Merrit Island, FL, Luther “The Baby” (Charles McDonald) Hunt of Marshall, Paula “The Youngest” Hunt of Indianapolis, IN, son-in-law David Justice of Raleigh, NC;18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Delores Hurley, Brenda Cornish; brother, Tracy Dotson and multiple nieces, nephews and friends and many other sons, daughters and grandchildren along life’s way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellison "Bud" of 66 years; parents, daughter, Deborah Justice; daughter-in-law, Debbie Hunt, 2 grandchildren, Michael and Britany Hunt, and brothers, William and Danny Dotson.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 pm on Monday, January 22nd at Kempf Family Funeral & Cremation Services, Marshall, Michigan.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 23rd at 11:00 am at Christ Apostolic Church in Albion with Bishop David Trammell, Pastor Terron Erwin and Rev. Gary Cook officiating.
A private family burial will take place in Albion Memory Gardens.
Memorials are suggested to the Christ Apostolic Church New Building Fund.
The service will be live streamed on cacalbion.org for those who cannot attend.
