Myron B. Maisner

June 3, 1938 — November 15, 2006

Myron B. "Tug" Maisner, age 68 of Marshall, died peacefully at his home early Wednesday morning, November 15, 2006, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. Tug was born on June 3, 1938 in Charlotte to Harvey J. and Lois E. (Bryant) Maisner. He attended Marshall schools. While in high school, he was a member of the Future Farmers Of America and earned his State Farmer designation. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1956. After high school, he attended Kellogg Community College for a short time, and then farmed in Marshall Township. Tug was married on May 10, 1958 in Marshall at the United Methodist Church to his high school sweetheart, Carlene A. Wilson. The couple settled in Marshall Township in the home they still live in today, on the farm Tug lived on all of his life. In 1963, he went to work at Packerboard in Marshall. When that plant closed in 1968, Tug went to work at Eaton Corporation in Marshall. He worked there until retiring in 2000. Until his family sold their dairy cows, Tug would share in the evening milking chores after he returned home from work. As a child, Tug discovered a love for the game of baseball. During high school, he was an outfielder for the Marshall High School baseball team coached by Joe Cooper and Ivan Flesser. He had also enjoyed a couple of years of football, and noontime intramural basketball games, but baseball was his sport! After high school, he played Stan Musial AA League Ball with Battle Creek based teams. The story that Carlene remembers, and that Tug always denied, was how Tug charmed her into returning home early from their honeymoon so that he could still play in his scheduled game! During season when he was a young man, Carlene remembers Tug often playing six nights a week, with the seventh day of the week being a practice day! Tug played softball in Marshall leagues for many years. At one time, he even was a teammate of his son Todd''s! But as he neared his fiftieth birthday, Tug found his knees giving him problems and his softball playing was forced to end. Watching any type of ball game was enjoyed by Tug. His favorites were the ones with his children and especially now, his grandchildren, in them! Tug was not a passive grandfather watching from the stands, he was always willing to pitch in with asked for advice, coaching a base, keeping a scorebook, or anything that needed to be done. As a result, Tug was a very extended grandfather to many friends of his own grandchildren. He will be remembered as an enthusiastic University Of Michigan sports fan! Even during his illness this past year, with the help of friends he was able to attend several U of M basketball games. Every year Tug looked forward to opening day of firearm deer season! He still planned to be out in the woods this year, until it became obvious to him that his health was not going to allow it. Last summer, he had taught grandson Andrew to shoot with deer season in mind! He was a member of Marshall United Methodist Church and also Marshall Moose Lodge #676. Tug''s family was always most important to him during all of his life, and they brought him great comfort as his life was ending. He will certainly be remembered for his good nature and selfless attitude. by both family and friends. Tug is survived by his beloved family, his wife Carlene, son and daughter-in-law Todd and Nancy Maisner and daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Kenneth J. Zuehlke all of Marshall, his grandchildren Benjamin (Sara) Zuehlke of Hastings and Nicholas Zuehlke, Craig Maisner, Danielle Maisner, and Andrew Maisner all of Marshall; his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Charles R. Parker of Marshall; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Richard Connelly. Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Friday from 9AM-9PM, where family will be present to greet friends and share memories from 2PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM..
