Mary B. (Polendo) Amaro

Mary B. Amaro, 90, of Marshall, passed away peacefully at home on March 7, 2022.

She was born on October 6, 1931, to Joe and Manuela (Valez) Polendo in Laredo, TX. Mary’s family came to Marshall in 1947. She married Jose Pedro Amaro Sr. and they had six children.

Mary worked for Progressive Dynamics in Marshall for more than 35 years, retiring in 2010. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshall and worked in the nursery for 30 years, until 2017. She enjoyed bus trips with friends to concerts and casinos, playing Mexican bingo with family, watching her soap operas, and doing word search puzzles.

Mary is survived by her sons, Porfirio “Pete” (Beth) Amaro of Houston, TX, Jose “Peppy” Amaro Jr. of Marshall, Carlos Amaro of Battle Creek, Daniel Amaro of Battle Creek; daughters, Mary Jane (Amaro) Marenko of Battle Creek, Charlotte Jo Amaro-Will and Ryan Will of Battle Creek. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ben Amaro of Denver, CO, Reid Amaro of Houston, TX, Tyler Amaro of Marshall, Alex Scott Marenko II of Battle Creek, Danielle (Amaro) and Dennis McCullin of North Port, FL, Gabrielle (Amaro) and Aaron Kiessel of Ellensburg, WA, Alexis Amaro of Las Vegas, NV, Hannah Amaro of Jackson, Kylie Hodo of Battle Creek, Kaitlin Amaro of Battle Creek, and Madeline Amaro of Kalamazoo, as well as nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Jose P. Amaro Sr. in 1987; parents, Joe and Manuela Polendo; brothers, Joe, Ray and Larry Polendo; sisters, Rafaela Rajal, Hortensia Villanueva, and Paula Morales; nieces and nephews.

Mary’s services have been entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services. Visitation will be held at the Marshall Chapel, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068 on Friday, March 11, 2022, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm with a rosary at 6:00 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, corner of Eagle and Green Streets, Marshall, MI 49068 on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 10:00 am with Fr. Craig Lusk, officiating. A graveside committal service will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Centennial Road, Marshall, MI 49068.
