Marjory Irene (Alden) Westphal-Gonzalez

Marjory Irene Westphal-Gonzalez, 86, of Battle Creek, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023 at MediLodge of Marshall.

She was born on January 18, 1937 to Marion and Frances (Ives) Alden in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

On July 2, 2003 she married Tomas Gonzalez in Battle Creek, Michigan. Marjory graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. Marjory entered the United States Marine Corp on December 19, 1960 at Proctor, Minnesota and was honorably discharged on August 30, 1963 at El Toro (Santa Ana), California attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

She was a former member of the American Legion Post 298 in Battle Creek, the Women's Marine Auxiliary and of the Uncle Sam's Marching Band with the Federal Center in Battle Creek. She worked as a supply cataloguer with the Department of Defense at the Federal Center in Battle Creek for 15 years, retiring in 1999. Marjory also worked for a short time at Wal- Mart in Battle Creek. Marjory was excellent at quilting and needlepoint. The house was decorated with many of her completed pieces. She enjoyed word search books, stamp and coin collecting, watching WWE and crime shows on TV. Marjory loved to go on day trips with Tomas. They would go to Lake Michigan and stop at antique stores along the way. Her favorite trip was going to Shipshewana and eating at Blue Gate.

Marjory is survived by her loving spouse Tomas, her children, Thomas Westphal of Battle Creek, David Westphal of Battle Creek, Michael (Katrina) Westphal of Denver, Colorado and Karen (Drew) Timmerman of Hartland, Wisconsin; her grandchildren, Alexander Westphal of Battle Creek, Andrew Westphal of Battle Creek and Whitney Westphal of Denver, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, James Alden.

Graveside services with full military honors for Marjory will take place on Friday, April 21, 2023 at 9:30 am at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan.
