Marjorie Elaine (Elsacer) Hammond

June 10, 1927 — January 19, 2022

Marshall

Marjorie Elaine (Elsacer) Hammond age 94 passed away the evening of January 19th at Best Care Plus Living Center East in Marshall, Michigan.  Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Bernadine Elsacer, her grandson Kip Hammond, and former husband William Hammond.

Marge was a life-long resident of Marshall having graduated from Marshall High School and attended Western Michigan University.  Marge is survived by her children, Lynn Hammond Sandro (Chuck), Andy Hammond (Vicki), and Terri Hammond Libbrecht.

Grandma Marge had nine grandchildren, Chris Sandro (Jill), Andy McCormack (Rebecca), Samantha Sandro Cressler (Clay), Kelli Hammond Fischer (Brad), Brad McCormack (Katie), Christopher Curren, Katelyn Hammond Carroll (Zach), and Kristin Hammond.

Marge, also known as great grandma (GG) had fourteen great grandchildren, Max and Drew McCormack; Laine and Madison McCormack; Keagan, Kendall, and Karsyn Fischer; Elliott and Greyson Carroll; CJ, Allison, and Taylor Sandro; Cole and Isabel Cressler.

Marge was an avid golfer and bowler and a long standing member of her bridge club. She loved to shop and enjoyed creating home and holiday decorations.  However, what she was most noted for and loved above all else, was being a grandmother to her nine grandchildren.  She was a loyal Marshall Redskin fan and sports enthusiast cheering on the Michigan Wolverines, Tigers, Lions, and Pistons.  Being a grandmother brought her the greatest joy through supporting her grandchildren Andy, Brad, and Chris and their teams as they competed for Marshall in soccer, football, basketball, and baseball.  Grandma also found opportunities to travel to cheer on Chris, Samantha, and Kelli as they competed for their respective schools.  In these past several years she once again got to cheer on great grandchildren Max and Drew as they competed in Marshall’s youth sports programs.

For many years Marge was a stay at home mom until becoming a lab technician at Oaklawn Hospital where she worked for 47 years and retired at the age of 86.  She truly enjoyed her job as she walked to/from work each day serving the hospital lab and enjoying her many friends and colleagues.

Marge’s favorite pastime in later years was spring, summer, and fall when she could sit on the front porch of her house on High Street, visiting with neighbors and simply enjoy the day.  Her last three years at Best Care Plus Living Center were also filled with new friends and the caring staff who truly enjoyed her friendship and feisty spirit.  She will be dearly missed!
