Maeve (Hopp) Bartelson

Maeve M. Bartelson, age 81, of Marshall, MI, passed away on December 15, 2021. Maeve was born in Spokane, WA on December 9, 1940, the daughter of the late Rolland and Margaret Hopp. Her family eventually moved to Arlington Heights, Illinois, where she spent her teen years. She worked for the International Paper Company in Chicago until her first child was born. She was employed as a nurse aide at Marshall Manor and Tender care nursing homes in Marshall. In 1988 she went into home health care, where she worked until 1997 when she was forced to retire, due to illness. Maeve was an usher at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for twenty years and a Eucharistic Minister for thirteen years. She was in the auxiliary of Oaklawn Hospital and passed out magazines to all hospital waiting rooms for over 10 years. She was a respite care giver for Oaklawn Hospice for many years.

After several moves, she and her family settled in Marshall, Michigan in 1979. She married Richard Bartelson on May 6, 1961, in Arlington Heights. Richard preceded her in death on November 10, 2020. She is survived by her two children, Anthony (Patricia) Bartelson and Margaret (Randy) Forman; grandchildren, Caleb Bartelson, Ethan Bartelson, Mario (Kelsey Hause) Ramon, Meghan (Zach) Jones, Nick (Landrie Jones) Ramon. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Maeve Elizabeth Bartelson in 1984.

A graveside service will be held in Oakridge Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021. Deacon Mike Moreno will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan.
