Lorraine Alice Jones

Lorraine Alice (Curtin) Jones, 98, of Battle Creek died on December 28, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on May 1, 1925, the daughter of Willard and Una (Lane) Curtin, in Anoka, MN.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, LeRoy; her mother and father; brothers, Kenneth and Ralph; son-in-law, Pastor Marvin Savola; and granddaughter-in-law, Janie Savola.
She is survived by her children, Diane (Virg) Debban of New Ulm, MN; Donna Mitchell of Maple Grove, MN; and Terry Savola of Athens, MI; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lawrence (Lucille) Curtin of Isanti, MN.
Lorraine was an Anoka High School graduate. She also graduated from Anoka-Ramsey College and Metro State University. She worked at the Veterans Administration Hospitals in Minneapolis and St. Cloud, MN as a registered nurse until her retirement in 1989.

Lorraine was a life-long learner and a voracious reader. She had a strong Christian faith, treasured her family above all else, and was a loyal friend. She is best remembered for her caring and heartfelt ways and the courage, strength, determination and perseverance with which she lived her life. She was an advocate for veterans’ rights and had a special place in her heart for neglected and abused children.

A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2023, at 11:00am and will be held at North Athens Baptist Church, 2020 M Drive South, Athens, MI 49011 with Pastor Mark Behr officiating. Private interment will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, St. Paul, MN at a later date.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers preferred to North Athens Baptist Church or Children’s Shelter of Cebu, P.O. Box 247, Cambridge, MN 55008.
