Lester O. LoyerLester O. "Cook" Loyer, age 76, of Battle Creek died Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Select Specialty Hospital with his loving wife by his side.Mr. Loyer was born on August 9, 1929 in Marshall to Lester E. and Myrtle (Delaney) Loyer. He was a life long resident of this area and attended the old one room Capital School House. Lester had been employed by the Eaton Corporation in Marshall for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He served in the United States Army.On September 19, 1959, he married the former Vedna Jo Lawrence in Marshall.Lester was a member of the Claude E. Hale V.F.W. Post #4073 and the American Legion Post #97. He was on the Convis Township Cemetery Board for many years and served as the Sexton and Caretaker at Porter Cemetery for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Lester''s greatest gift was his love and time he shared with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.He is survived by his wife, Vedna "Jo"; sons, Lester E. (Carrie) Loyer of Battle Creek and Butch (Karla) Wheeler of Marshall; daughter, Starr (Nick) Cady of Marshall; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Frank) Grafft and Irene (Romie) Thweatt all of Battle Creek. He was preceded in death by sons, Brett L. Loyer 2001 and Barton O. Loyer in 2000; sisters, Viola Bocanegra and Zella Rivers; brothers, George Loyer and Harold Yaudes.Friends may call at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Thursday where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 Friday, April 7, 2006 at the funeral home with Celebrant Bob Doner officiating. Interment will follow in Porter Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the America Diabetes Association or American Heart Association. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
