Larry L. Shellenberger, 79 of Newaygo, formerly of Marshall, died on Saturday, July 13, 2019 in Fredonia Township from injuries sustained in a automobile accident.
Larry was born on November 25, 1939 in Marshall to Lewis P. and Bernice (Anderson) Shellenberger. He graduated from Marshall High School. Larry served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1958. On October 1, 1982 he married Phyllis Curry in Marshall.
Larry was a truck driver for several years working for various companies. He hauled for Clark Equipment, Kim Martin, Yellow Transit, Hamilton Trucking, and Clayborn's. When Larry was not working, he was spending the time with his race car. He had a passion for racing the sprint cars and the modified cars. He raced at Butler Motor Speedway, and several different tracks all over Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. Larry was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge #676. He enjoyed going on motorcycle trips, old cars, and going to car shows.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis; children, Mike (Jamie) Shellenberger, Steve Shellenberger, Dan (Sandy) Hammond, Georgia Shellenberger, Amanda Shellenberger, and Dawn Hammond-Shorter; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and all of his racing family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parent and his brother Lewis Shellenberger.
Family will gather with friends from 5-8pm on Thursday July 18, 2019 at the Marshall Moose Lodge 1238 South Kalamazoo Avenue, Marshall. Memorial contributions are requested to Saint Jude Children Research Hospital. Interment will take place at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens at a later date.
