KATHERINE M. WILLIAMSKatherine May "Kay" (Boehmer) Williams, age 75, of Lee Township died June 30, 2006 unexpectedly at her home.Mrs. Williams was born on April 16, 1931 in Marshall to George and Alverta (Reagle) Boehmer. She was brought up on her parents family farm in rural Convis Township and worked on the farm with her brothers and sisters. Kay attended nearby Porter School and Marshall Public Schools and later graduated from Marshall High School in 1949. She then enrolled at Nazareth College in Kalamazoo and received a degree in Nursing in 1952. She worked at the State Hospital in Kalamazoo from 1952 to 1954. She then returned to the Marshall area and had worked at numerous hospitals and care facilities including Fort Custer State Hospital, Oaklawn Hospital, Provincial House, Marshall Manor and Tendercare of Marshall. She was promoted to the role of administrator, working with Beverly Enterprises, traveling all across the state monitoring its many care facilities.On June 29, 1954, she married Gerald E. Williams in Oshtemo, Michigan. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Lee Township, where they purchased a farm and lived for nearly 50 years. Gerald preceded her in death on June 12, 2005.Kay served as a member of the Marshall Women of the Moose, Calhoun County Farm Bureau, AARP and the National Farmers Organization. She enjoyed fishing very much with her husband, Jerry, tending her garden and watching the birds at the many feeders in her yard. Kay and her husband also loved to travel all over the United States.She is survived by sons, Gerald (Sue) Williams Jr. of Battle Creek, Todd (Sharon) Williams of Marshall; step-daughter, Judy (Tim) Gould of Olivet; 2 grandchildren; sisters, Martha Bedford of Marshall and Hazel Dunn of East Lansing; several nieces and nephews; and caregiver Sharon Richards. She was preceded in death by brothers, Clayton, Hugh and Henry Boehmer and two sisters in infancy.The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home. A funeral service to remember and celebrate her life will be held 10:30 AM Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Hospice of Jackson and Oaklawn. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
