KAREN ELIZABETH HOLTKaren E. Holt, age 60, of Marshall died Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Oaklawn Hospital after being stricken at her home.Mrs. Holt was born on September 22, 1945 in Battle Creek and was raised by her mother and step-father, Wilma and Donald Drews. She has been a resident of this area all of her life and was a graduate of Penfield High School, class of 1963. Karen was employed as a bartender at the Marshall Moose Lodge for the last nine years. Prior employment included working at Win Schuler''s restaurant as a waitress and then as the manager of Farmer Insurance Company in Battle Creek.A marriage to Dennis Jeffery ended in divorce. On January 21, 1978, she married Jerry Michael Holt in Battle Creek. The couple has lived in Marshall since their marriage.Karen was a member of the Marshall Women of the Moose where she has held several offices. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her life centered on her family and especially her grandchildren.She is survived by her husband, Jerry; step-daughter, Teresa (Steve) Schatzel of Scott Depot, W.V.; step-son, Chad (Shawn) Holt of Jacksonville, FL; 6 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Martha VanArman; brothers-in-law, John and Jim Holt; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by sons, Michael J. Jeffery in 1993, Greg D. Jeffery in 2003; daughter, Sandra Lynn McFarland in 2005; and a sister, Mary Jane.The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 and 5:00 to 7:00 Sunday at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home. A service to remember and celebrate her life will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 12 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lyon Lake Cemetery. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or to the Women of the Moose. Assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.
