Juanita Brown

Juanita Brown, 89, of Jackson, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the Colonial House West in Marshall, MI. She was born on May 27, 1934 in Salyersville, Kentucky, to Sherman and Roxie (Hackworth) Risner. Juanita married Kenneth R. Brown on December 9, 1951 in Homer, MI. She was a graduate of the Class of 1952 of Homer High School.

After graduation, Juanita worked for the former Marshall State Farm Insurance Company before moving to Jackson where she worked for the National Bank of Jackson and retired from the State Prison of Southern Michigan’s Accounting Department. Ken and Juanita spent 28 winters in Tavares, FL having fun with other snowbirds, riding on their golf cart and playing shuffleboard.

She attended the United Pentecostal Church in Jackson. Juanita loved to cook and bake, and she really enjoyed hosting family and friends in her home. No one ever left hungry.  She never failed to attend her children's events and loved to play cards and travel with her many friends.

Juanita is survived by her loving children, Gregory (Janette) Brown of Rives Junction, MI, Sherri (Barry) McCarrell of Parma, MI; grandchildren, Crystal Brown, Gregory J. (Cherilyn) Brown, David (Courtney) Brown, Dr. Kelli (Dr. Zachary) Virgin, Adam (Denver) McCarrell, Lynsi (Karlo Franco) McCarrell, Ashli (Brendan Bectel) McCarrell; great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Kassidy Murray, Madison, McKenzie and Adeline Brown, Silas and Sydni Virgin; sisters, Loretta Miller of Hillsdale, and Maxine Yeager of Homer.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Kim Douglas Brown; sisters, Vinetta Hackworth, Roberta Owens, Rubena Risner and Doris Jean Owens.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Kempf Family Funeral Home, 303 S. Hillsdale Street, Homer, MI 49245. 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at noon at the Kempf Family Funeral Home, Homer Chapel, with Pastor David Trammell officiating. Graveside service immediately following at the Fairview Cemetery in Homer.  A luncheon will be provided at the funeral home.
