Joseph L. Thornton, 80, of Ceresco died 1 August 2022. Joe was born 22 December 1941, in Marshall, Michigan to Ernest and Evelyn (Comstock) Thornton. Joe graduated from Marshall High School in 1960 and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force as a Heavy Ground Radar specialist from 1961 to 1965.

Joe worked over 27 years for the Kellogg Company as a pressman, retiring in 1992.

Joe married the former Sandra K. Coats and the couple raised three children. They were married for 47 years before her passing in 2008. Joe is survived by their children, Bryon (Tammy) Thornton, Christine (Christopher) Judd and Sherri (Glenn) Leeper; 8 grandchildren, Heather, Glenn, Joseph, Travis, Heath, Scott, Brad, Patrick and 4 great grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Sandy.

Joe was a lifelong, expert fisherman and over the years he loved tinkering with his many car and boat projects.  Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, and he will be missed by them for years to come.

Services have been entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. A committal service will take place privately. Also, you may visit to view the online obituary, sign the online guest book, or to leave the family condolences.
