John G. Negus

We are saddened to announce that our father, John G. Negus, 71, of Albion, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on October 17, 1950, to James and Cecelia (Becker) Negus in Jackson, Michigan. On August 31, 1990, he married the love of his life Lori J. Potter at the courthouse in Marshall.

John was a longtime employee at Lotte USA Inc. in Battle Creek before he retired in 2019. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, camping, foraging, spearing. He was that typical “ole” farm boy. John enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing cards, bowling, and family time. He also liked helping others, whether it was driving his 4-wheel drive truck around to help those that ended up in a ditch on snow days, helping his neighbor’s, or spending the last five years of his life being the sole caretaker for Lori.

John is survived by his children: Daniel (Michelle) Negus, Julie Negus-Grimes, Amy (Aren) Smith and Jessi Negus-Weaver; nine grandchildren: Trevor (Caitie), Jeremy, Isaac, Matthew, Beth, Destiny, Sara, Nevaeh, Noah; two great grandchildren: Alice and Charles; siblings: Mike Negus, Phil Negus, Paul (Robin) Negus and Marilyn Lewis; life-long friend: Stewart Winter; close friends and neighbors: Wayne Weaver, Tommy and Joanne Hubbard. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lori, October 9, 2021; his parents, infant grandson: Jonathon; and brother, James Negus.

A Celebration of his life was held at his residence on July 16, 2022, as his wishes were to be cremated and buried with Lori at Rice Creek Cemetery in Marshall.
