Joan E. Higgins

Joan E. (Blaurock) Higgins, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2023 in Battle Creek, MI.
Joan was born March 17, 1936, in Detroit, MI to Edward and Irma Blaurock.  She graduated from Lincoln High School (Ferndale, MI) in 1954 and the University of Michigan in 1958. She married Christopher C. Higgins on June 21, 1957 and eventually started a family in the Detroit area before moving to Battle Creek in 1967.  They celebrated 56 years of marriage before Christopher passed in 2013.

Joan is survived by her four sons Stephen (Jane) Higgins, Scott (Barbara) Higgins, Kenneth (Laura) Higgins and John (Tegan) Higgins, sister Margaret Dufault, grandchildren Christopher, Eric, Michael, Brent, Kristen, Sutton, Laine, Lily, Jack and Yana, and great grandchildren Scarlett, Samantha and Benjamin.  She is preceded in death by her husband Christopher Higgins and brother Allen Blaurock.

Joan was a proud mom and grandmother and dedicated her life to supporting her family.  She stayed active her whole life through golf, tennis, walking, travel, playing bridge, socializing with friends and passionately cheering on her children and grandchildren in sports and other activities.  She was a member of Battle Creek Country Club for over 50 years, a member of PEO and the Battle Creek Women’s Social Club, an active community volunteer, and an avid supporter of music concerts, the Binder Park Zoo and University of Michigan athletics.
