Jeannette “Jean” Quigg, 89, died July 6, 2023, at the Calhoun County Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Jean was born February 17, 1934, to Jesse James and Mintie Emaline (Lackey) Branham in Boons Camp, Kentucky. She graduated from Wheelwright High School, Wheelwright, KY, in 1953. She moved to Eaton Rapids, Michigan in 1955 and lived with a dear friend while working at Corning Glass in Albion, MI. Here she met the love of her life, Darrell Edwin Quigg. They were married six months later, on September 22, 1956.
Jean attended Jackson Business College for a time and then was a stay-at-home mom until she worked for State Farm Insurance for 26 years before retiring on December 1, 1994. Jean was a Christ Lutheran Church charter member in Marshall, MI, and belonged to the Family Motor Coach Association, Michigan Knights of the Highway, Bounder United, and Great Lakes Chapter of Bounder United.
She and her husband enjoyed camping in their motorhome and traveled to 49 states and most Canadian provinces. They also enjoyed their Texas winter home with friends from around the country. Jean loved crafts, including embroidery, quilting, Swedish weaving, and card making. She even combined the art of embroidery and quilting, making each grandchild a keepsake quilt. However, the quilts were too many to remember – upwards of 40. Jean loved to go to garage sales to collect teacups and find special presents for her great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved puzzles. She lived at Lakeview Assisted Living for over two years, where she had special friends Janet, Dorothy, Hattie, and Elaine.
She is survived by her daughters Marlene Quigg of Mount Pleasant, WI, and Elaine (David) Chapman of Battle Creek, MI.; her six grandchildren, Kelli (Chris) McGray and Kimberly (Andrew) Storlie, both of Racine, WI, Jenna (Matt) Hart of Marshall, MI, Kevin Behling of Battle Creek, MI, Jon (Courtney) Chapman of Shorewood, IL, and Jamie (Matt) Sutton of Ludington, MI; 13 great-grandchildren; and two siblings, sister Betty Hall of Bagley Holler, KY and brother David Branham of Albion, MI. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Darrell; daughter, Catherine Goodall; parents, Jessie and Mintie Branham; as well as brothers, Clifton “Pud”, John, Wiley “Buster”, and Frankie Branham.
