James "Jim" L. Russell

SIOUX FALLS, SD -  James “Jim” Lawrence Russell passed away of natural causes on Monday, December 13, 2021, at Centerville Care and Rehab Center in Centerville, South Dakota.  He was 78 years old.

Jim was born October 9, 1943, in Battle Creek, Michigan to Lawrence and Beatrice (Samson) Russell.  He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1962 and enjoyed playing all the school sports.  He graduated from Kellogg Community College in 1964 with an Associate of Arts Degree, and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

Jim served in the US Army from 1967 to 1971.  He reached the rank of Sergeant.  He was with the Military Police division in Korea and Ethiopia.  Jim was proud to serve his country.

After honorable discharge from the US Army, Jim worked as an Insurance Adjuster his entire career in Ohio, North Carolina, Kentucky, Minneapolis and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  He held management positions and traveled with his jobs as well.  He had lasting friendships with coworkers.  He liked Sioux Falls and decided to stay when he retired.

Jim was a Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed travelling to Fort Myers, Florida in his retirement years for spring training.

Jim always enjoyed returning home to Michigan to spend time with his family for holidays.  Jim was a very loyal friend and had a great sense of humor.  He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

Grateful and blessed for having him in our lives during his years in Sioux Falls are his close friends, Dan and Sharon McAllister; close friends Tim, Samantha, Maxx and Zoey Boyer.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Russell.

A memorial service beginning with Military Honors, will be held 3:00pm, Sunday December 18, 2021, at Miller Funeral Home Southside Chapel at 7400 South Minnesota Avenue, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57108, with a time of fellowship and refreshments following the service at the funeral home. Additionally, visitation will begin one-hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at 12:00 pm ,Thursday December 23, 2021 at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue, Michigan.
