James B. Hansen

James B. Hansen, 82 of Albion, Michigan, formerly of Olivet, passed away February 12, 2024, at MediLodge of Marshall, surrounded by his family.
Jim was born on March 13, 1941, at Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte, MI to Albert H. and Sarah E. Hansen. Jim’s family moved to Florida, enjoyed life there then following his graduation from Hernando High School in 1959 they returned to Michigan and settled in Olivet. Jim went to work at Carl’s Supermarket. 


In April of 1962, Jim met and married his loving wife, Judy Ann Brandt. Together they raised one son, Thomas John Hansen. After two years of working at Carl’s, Jim purchased the supermarket. Then 11 years later, he sold the parent store back to the original owners in Potterville, MI in 1975. Jim then worked for Ralston Purina Company in Battle Creek, MI for 11 years and due to cutbacks, decided to retire. 
Jim took pride in serving in the Army National Guard Reserves. He fired at expert level with M-14 rifle on June 12th near the completion of basic combat training on June 16, 1967, at Fort Sill, OK. The expert rating is the highest mark a soldier can achieve on his weapons qualifications test. Jim served for 7 years.


Jim loved sprint car races and golf, he and his son enjoyed many wonderful times together; he also enjoyed golfing as a family, as well as square dancing with friends. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan from Spring Training to the end of the season, never missing a game. Florida was a favorite vacation spot through the years. He enjoyed and took great pride in his yard work also enjoyed Sundays off and church at St. Mary’s. Jim faithfully followed his granddaughters’ activities and events all throughout their lives.


Jim is survived by his loving companion and friend, Judy Ann Hansen; his son, Thomas John Hansen; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Rae Hansen; step granddaughter’s, Marissa Motz and Shelly (Zachary) Moulten; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert H. and Sarah E. Hansen; sisters, Dereatha Barlond and Josephine Roberts; and brother, Albert Hansen. 
Per Jim’s request, arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068. A graveside service will take place later at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet, MI
