Jack L Vandy Bogurt passed away unexpectedly July 14, 2022, at age 82. He was born August 4,1939 in Battle Creek MI to Jack H. and Nettie May (Wagoner) Vandy Bogurt. The family moved to Grand Rapids where young Jack attended the Alger Hts. schools. When he was 12, they moved to Marshall where his father opened the “Ritzee” restaurant. Jack worked there as a teen and graduated from Marshall High school with the class of 1957. He attended Western Michigan University and enjoyed being a DJ on the WMU radio station. In the summer of 1958, he met the love of his life Kathleen Scott at a tennis court dance in Marshall. The couple married in 1960, settled in Marshall and raised a family. He worked as a fireman in Marengo and Marshall, he loved working on cars and started an auto parts business on W Michigan Ave. He worked in sales, insurance and ran his own investment business. He was active in city government as councilman and mayor pro tem and was an active member of the Exchange Club of Marshall.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, and dancing partner Kathleen Vandy Bogurt. Children: Cheryle Marine of Phoenix, AZ, Julie Haaksman (and husband Cor) of the Netherlands and Douglas Vandy Bogurt (and wife Annette) of Grand Haven. Sisters: Karen Vandy Bogurt Henley (husband James Henley) of Shreveport LA. and Gail Vandy Bogurt (husband George Kremer) of the Virgin Islands. Jack is also survived by grandchildren David Jon Akcabal, Naomi Marine, Nathan Marine, Zachary Marine and Sierra Fletcher. Joshua Vandy Bogurt, Jason Vandy Bogurt, and Josiah Vandy Bogurt, Sarah Harris and great grandchildren Ethan, Ava, Rylin, Audrey, Mila, Hudson, Bruce, Wylie, Lakyn, and Atticus. Also, by niece and nephew: Debra and Eric Henley.
The impact Jack made on those that he encountered was immeasurable. Jack treasured and shared his love of God with all he met. His many gifts included his beautiful singing voice, handbell choir, sharing stories and memories with messages of support, hope and love of all those that surrounded him.
Funeral services will be held at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, MI 49068, July 23, 2022, at 11:00am.
Private family interment at Oakridge Cemetery with memorial visitation following at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services of Marshall.
