Isabel E. Lang

Isabel Elizabeth Lang, age 85, of Marshall, died Monday evening, December 11, 2006 at Tendercare of Albion. Isabel was born June 15, 1921 in Cuba, North Dakota to Leonard and Cecilia (Fonder) Fonder. She graduated from St. Catherine High School in Valley City, North Dakota. She was married to Donald F. Lang, and their marriage later ended in divorce. She moved to California after her marriage, then St. Louis, MO and Washington,D.C. before moving to Battle Creek in 1954. She lived briefly in Marshall. Isabel attended Kellogg Community College''s Licensed Practical Nurse Program. She returned to KCC and earned her Registered Nurse Degree in 1972. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Leila Hospital until 1974 when she went to work at the Veteran''s Administration Hospital in Battle Creek, from where she retired in 1986. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Battle Creek until moving to Marshall, and then attended St. Mary Catholic Church. She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Battle Creek, and was a longtime member of the St. Joseph Altar Society. When her children were young, Isabel was a Campfire leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a talented seamstress, enjoyed gardening and was very creative with different crafts. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne and Russell Samson of Marshall; her son Steven Lang of San Francisco; 2 granddaughters Melanie (Jerry) Holdren of Spokane, WA, and Laura Finck of Essex Glen, Vermont; and two great-grandchildren, Tristan and Addison Holdren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Tim Samson. Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home on Thursday from 5PM to 8PM, where the family will be present to greet friends. A prayer service will be held the funeral home Thursday evening at 6PM. Funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Friday at 11AM with Rev. Stephen Naas officiating. Interment will follow in Oakridge Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children''s Hospital. Assistance with memorials available at Kempf Funeral Home.
